They are not cheap but I find they look good and they last long.

My advice is replace both at the same time and keep the good one as a spare, the new one normally is brighter and some times there is a color deferent (deferent lot and production date), Now why it failed is very important, if you use it a lot (driving at nights most of the time) and the care have lots of miles maybe its OK, but better to check if your head light is sealed if you have any leak that can kill it (stone ship or crack) can pass dirt or water to the bulb.
By the way did you check the PIAA price for a replacement $500 each!!!

wilw,
no i did not look at the bulb when it first lit. but i did look at the old bulb which looks totally differant than any bulb i have seen before. so my new question is, should i change the other bulb now or follow the old rule and "if it`s not broken don`t fix it ". thanks.

Unlike halogen bulbs which run current through a filament causing it to glow and emit light, HID bulb fire an electrical arc across a small capsule of xenon gas. That initial burst to create the arc (did you notice the FLASH when you first turn them on?) takes thousands of volts to initiate. After the arc is established, the voltage drops and stabilizes. You might notice a subtle color change during these first few seconds.

Each headlight unit uses an igniter and an inverter (or ballast) electrically similar to a fluorescent tube. Too bad they ain't as cheap.

Yep, those HID Xenon lamps are not cheap.
